A global family
Parkson is the Retail division of the Lion Group, an international conglomerate with beginnings in manufacturing and trading in the 1930s. The Group has since grown to become a global company with operations in Malaysia, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, USA and Mexico.
The Lion Group has diversified business interests ranging from retail, property development, mining, steel to agriculture. The Group’s stable of companies includes five listed companies in Malaysia and six additional listed companies in Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
The Group’s Property division is involved in the entire spectrum of property investment, development and management of various types of properties. Its portfolio includes integrated townships, high-rise serviced suites, office towers, industrial parks, shopping malls, hotels, resorts and gold courses spanning Malaysia with equally successful projects in Singapore and China.
The Group’s venture into the Mining industry is underway with active exploration for tin, iron ore and other minerals in Malaysia, Cambodia and Indonesia; and trading of these minerals. Iron ore is an essential raw material for supply to the Group’s iron and steel manufacturing operations.
With its integrated steel facilities, the Group is a major producer of a wide range of steel products catering to the nation’s infrastructural, construction, engineering, fabrication and manufacturing needs. Its upstream iron making operations convert iron ore into high-purity Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) and Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) for supply as feedstock to the Group’s steel making and roiling operations.
In the Agriculture sector, the Group has oil palm and rubber plantations covering about 129,000 hectares in Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia, with the possibility of cultivating cash crops such as maize, rice, peanuts and soybean which offer potential for further downstream processing.
Other business involve the manufacturing of electronics and computer peripherals with facilities in Malaysia and Mexico, and a sales office in USA; fabrication of steel products in Indonesia; trading in building materials, automotive components, and petroleum-based products under the Hi-Rev and T-Trax brands; and the provision of total integrated 24-hours security services with both electronic and physical security systems for residential as well as commercial properties by Secom.
Leveraging on the Group’s global operations and strength has allowed Parkson to achieve unparalleled success in retailing. The synergies and expertise that the Group offers will continue to provide the necessary tools to drive Parkson’s future growth.
